We believe publishers are critical voices in this fight. Publishers can shift power. Publishers can gather and amplify. Publishers can make the quiet voices heard.

To our fellow publishers - keep an eye out. Much more from Publishing Professionals Against Book Bans (PPABB) soon. (2/2)

I edited an editor Hugo Award.

I helped found PPABB.

I coordinated the thing you'll see on 04 February.

I edited and helped many books.

I helped a First Nations elder achieve his life mission.

I didn't go away.

I loved, loved, and loved more.

And I was a pretty good mama.

But wait there’s more!

Did you hear your gal helped found PPABB? Stop by and we can talk about getting in the fight.

Coming after our stories?

No way.

Anyway, I've helped run 5 cons, published 50+ books, and helped found PPABB but there's not a genre con on the continent who thinks I have anything interesting to say on panels.

(And that's even if none of them care about what this has done to my mental health, which apparently is the case.)

I busted my ass in every direction this week. PPABB. Translations. Edits. Boosting. Digital rewards. Love.

I post some of this stuff and it's like I'm on a play internet where no one can see me.

Not upset, not complaining, just feeling ...

unsure of what I can *do*.

Seriously. I spent the last two years publishing trans, ace, nd, and Jewish works, raising money and sales for translations and other small presses, and co-founding *PPABB* and the people who say I'm the problem's response is to put a white supremacist in charge of an all-white "showcase" book?

We spoke with @authorsabb.bsky.social member @curiosityjones.bsky.social about her experience with #BookChallenges and bans including her title that was pulled for review in Duval County, FL, Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer.

Ok, very emotional today, but had posts to make. Will get offline a bit, gotta do ppabb stuff, also I am determined to write today. Any amount. I deserve that.

I love you all.

Depression has been hitting with force lately, and there's more personal stuff I don't want to talk about.

But we have three novellas and I think the thing I'm proudest of doing (yet!) coming up in the first half of 2026, in addition to SFWA and PPABB volunteer work.

BUCKLE UP, Emily's still here.

I'm really proud of being in at the ground on Publishing Professionals Against Book Bans (PPABB) but it's also so hard, so triggering, realizing I had to find a place to stand up for writers where they didn't have to stand up for me.

Allow a moody post. I'm working on it.

So, I mean, you don't need me to tell you that teachers matter.

I say and I mean - we are our stories.

This is one reason I care. This is one reason I won't stop caring.

This is the backstory and energy I take to everything I do, including PPABB.

I *love* us. So deeply.

I love us.

Mornin'! I am going to my son's new apartment today to Assemble the Furniture.

I will be Allen Wrenching (and then PPABB meeting) so it would be a *really* good day for people to talk about the African Translation Project. Would you? There's now a FAQ!

Happy Graphic Time for @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social! I decided to call mine "Emily loves you!"

Because I do.

So I helped found PPABB, where I can't address the cultural and financial fight, but I can at least channel weaves against censorship and build publishing industry coordination and solidarity - with each other and with creators. Told the sff editors through the list.

And so far, it's been quiet.
November 12, 2025 at 1:45 PM
And having helped found PPABB, I have a pretty informed view of how bad it is and that it's absolutely not, as the genre Sheriff says, that you can't force people to read what they don't want to read.

It's so intentional and comprehensive and people are just folding everywhere.

Hey, #TTRPG writers - I got banned from the Big Con, but your books don't have to be - don't assume they are safe. Please ask your game publishers to get involved with PPABB, now and also in person if you'll be there - they can sign up right now: www.publishingprofessionalsagainstbookbans.com

AABB / PPABB are US, not global or international, organizations because the focus is governance.

If Canadians aren't already organizing their version of this (they may be, I don't know), I strongly recommend someone get going.
May 26, 2025 at 5:25 PM
One of the reasons I'm so excited about being on the ground at PPABB is helping set the foundation and tone in ways I can't get into, but I can confidently say are creator-focused.

We're gonna need all hands.
