PPBE explainers should all use this cube. Congress insists on organizing military budgets by categories on top (roughly, lifecycle). DOD historically and most comfortably, thinks of in terms of "who gets it". McNamara wanted a system tracking "what major *purpose* is it going to?", thus PPBS.

Correct. This is my reaction to the ppbe reform commission, where the biggest recommendations were basically Congress begging itself to do things differently that it already has the power to do differently if it wanted to

There's a reason the DAF has multiple career fields while entire job is understanding and executing the DAS, PPBE, and the JFRP (formerly JCIDS)

In the bad old days of now you’d have to sift through 8 hours on a DAU course for your DAWIA cert for this kind of stuff and now well meaning posters will explain PPBE to you gratis. What a world!

As the person that leads the team that runs the AF's process for first the first "P" in PPBE, that is an all too familiar statement and unfortunately the programmers' tomorrow problem is my current problem lol.

You do not get points for just stating this with no follow-ups or specificity. You also need to tell me what about the AAF is broken or what specifically about PPBE doesn't work or how this is a procurement problem vs a requirements/services problem vs a congress problem.

Man thank God the Secretary of Defense is an easy-going job or I'd be worried that an almost comically unqualified alcoholic with clear impulse control issues might implode when placed in that position.

Oh this is good. I’m halfway through Hegseth’s book on PPBE reform and his two-volume set on missile defense technology development and acquisition is on my Christmas list.

Oh this is good. I’m halfway through Hegseth’s book on PPBE reform and his two-volume set on missile defense technology development and acquisition is on my Christmas list.
This is why I don't get excited about PPBE reform. So many of the proposed reforms boil down to, "Congress should stop doing things the way it does and caring about the things it cares about"

Reading the big PPBE Reform Commission report and it’s funny how they seem to have seized on the more intraprogam funds flexibility and not the “expand resources for USD(C) and CAPE while expanding the training and resourcing for acquisition and resourcing personnel”

No all of these PPBE/JCIDS processes need to be taken out back of the Pentagon and shot. Their replacement probably won’t be any better but step one is finally exorcising Robert McNamara’s Ghost out of the Pentagon.
