Within nine days of arriving in theatre, Grant’s Warrant Officer drunkenly threatened two Italian-Canadians in the platoon with a loaded handgun over the Mafia(?) and tried to physically threaten one into silence the next day. It took 2 PPCLI months in the line to generate incidents like this.

If I recall correctly, Bercuson noted that 1 Commando (PPCLI airborne contingent) had more issues than the others.

Agreed. One story that should be told is of the Canadians PPCLI at Kapyong in 1951. Incredible tale of Canadian bravery which has never really been told.

The Light Infantry Regiment is a good idea, although it will interact strangely with the existing battle honours and regimental identities for the PPCLI, Vandoos and RCR. It’s a concept that’s been tried before and can hopefully be executed properly today without any distribution of Klan literature.

The Canadian Military is small, but we were the spearhead in both world wars. One member of the PPCLI killed twenty people *by himself* in Afghanistan.

Because the 1st Battalion PPCLI were operating on their own as a CDN battalion, the considerable fighting they did in late spring and early summer of 2006 received scant attention. But fight they did, meeting the Taliban in what would add up to more than fifty significant and fierce engagements.

Sean Never-Served Duffy would be wise to think about the soldiers of the PPCLI who lost their lives in Kandahar in a war we asked them to participate in. He won't, of course, because he is a disgrace.
