#PROTECTIONISM

The answer has nothing to do with either NAFTA or "lower labor costs in China🤡."

It has more to do with protectionism for a few companies, and the fact that some union autoworkers in Ohio place a psychic value premium on working for a white American billionaire rather than an Asian Chinese one.🤷🏿‍♂️

Trump’s tariff wars promised to shield American dairy, but aggressive protectionism backfired. Ret retaliatory trade blows and closed export markets crush U.S. cheese and milk producers, exposing how chaotic nationalist trade policies hurt the exact industries they exploit.

Hate to tell you but Bernie Sanders and Progressives are America First protectionists same as MAGA. Americans have been brainwashed by russian assets to isolate ourselves. We forgot what made us great. We are destined to FAFO unless the hated "centrists" have power thehill.com/blogs/pundit...
What’s so progressive about Sanders’s old-fashioned protectionism?
Protectionism was a singular policy position of conservatives well into the 20th century.

You don't have to believe it's alive to think LLM agents are capable of doing some truly scary things if we aren't careful.

The CW is it's all hype and angling for protectionism. Why can't it be all of the above?

#Nationalism and #Internationalism can coexist, but extreme nationalism can undermine global cooperation through protectionism, rivalry, and expansionism.

The challenge is balancing national interests with international collaboration.

Protectionism is an EU-minus UK artifact not IMO part of EU DNA.

Greater involvement in defence matters, re-integrating supply chains and markets in an era of increasing protectionism and bloc competition, and the symbolism of a Brexit Britain returning to the EU within a generation.

This has transcended mere political point-scoring to become a raw pursuit of justice.

It stands as a stark reminder that when confronting the deepest abuses of power, institutional protectionism must end, and the public's right to the truth must take over.

and thats something that china/foreign nations will 100% subsidize - so with a little bit of protectionism (easy), these guys should make an absolute shit-ton of money in the near term?

It’s all labor protectionism
I also think it's possible that some suburbs have reached tipping points that certain MAGA conservatives can't stand. They could handle a noticeable South Asian minority but can't handle what they perceive as threats to their white kids' and grandkids' scholarships and university placements.
Comments on local high school Facebook posts in the Charlotte suburbs typically include a number of replies from boomer locals ask why the students are all Hispanic and Indian now. But sure, I don't understand the "emotional" reasons people have for being anti-immigrant.

Global steel prices have normalized from the COVID disruption but American steel prices are only getting more & more deranged thanks to Trump’s protectionism
There have been issues with the LED supply chain but the bulk of that has to be from US steel prices coming completely untethered from the world market

That + stricter FDMP (renamed Buy America/Build America) content requirements on federally funded projects

American Protectionism is a message all in itself about American incompetence!

I don’t think in the medium term it’s politically possible for Ford or GM to be Chinese owned, even if that means increasingly insane protectionism. Stellantis is a different story but I can imagine a forced sale of the American brands

I suspect proponents cannot fathom why anyone would genuinely care about their scraping.

I think that might be their greatest weakness right now. They have NO IDEA why or how intensely people hate genAI. They assume it’s all manufactured outrage or narrow self-interested protectionism or something.

Your Norwegian friends know they are not in the Single Market- they know it every time they buy something from the EU & get hit with import charges, and every time they pay for shopping in a supermarket.

Their country chose protectionism over political & economic integration- their choice.

Populist left: protectionism, giveaways, the Alternative Great Leader, transactionalism, woo, right (and the wealthy) must be obliterated.

Antipopulist left: likes free trade, raise taxes on the wealthy, boost services, alliances, supports science, right (and the wealthy) as an adversary
