#PaleoEnvironment
Since the minerals, liquids, and gases are well protected from chemical alteration, #quartz inclusions open a window to the past that can help scientists reconstruct the chemical and physical conditions that existed when the rock formed.

And 12,000 years ago, nomadic peoples depicted the paleoenvironment & animal communities in cliff-face rock carvings- illustrating the presence of camels, ibex, equids, and other larger mammals that they hunted.

Burgess Shale is such a cool Formation because each of the quarries have such a different paleoenvironment and context within the site.

#Coal is a valuable indicator of paleoenvironment & geodynamics (altered during diagenesis/metagenesis, influenced by internal ecology/external sedimentary processes). #Peatlands and corresponding peat sediments reflect multiple interacting ecosystems

Working on the paleoenvironment on a wikipedia page
find a paper nicely summarizing things
it even mentions modern analogues
.....
there are no good pictures of said modern analogues that I could use on the page
GODDAMN IT

The paleoenvironment is really interesting. The fossils come from a sediment lens within a thick series of basalts, showing that the fish lived in a short-lived lake in a volcanic landscape, established during a quiescent phase only to become entombed by a lava flow when eruptions resumed.

I've been working on the Brady Soil of the central Great Plains for more than 25 years, studying its age and distribution and the paleoenvironment it represents. I'm very happy to have collaborated in this new paper on what happens to the carbon in the Brady Soil when it's exposed by erosion.
