Paleontologists in Chile discovered a 131-million-year-old pregnant ichthyosaur in pristine condition. They named her Fiona.

Dr. Judith Pardo-Pérez joins us to talk about what Fiona can teach paleontologists about ichthyosaur evolution.

paging all paleontologists and science friends!!!
My favorite ongoing manga is Dinosaur Sanctuary by Itaru Kinoshita. In a world that's moved past the marvelous novelty of dinosaurs being brought back to life exists a mundane and underfunded city zoo that only gets by thanks to the passion of its staff. An inspired & charming spin on Jurassic Park.

One of my favourite facts is that the spiky tail of a stegosaurus didn't used to have a specific name, until Gary Larson published this Far Side cartoon, at which point "thagomizer" was adopted by paleontologists.

Always a joy when paleontologists find the big one.
We redescribe the largest specimen of Rhamphorhynchus, and confirm its assignment to R. muensteri, rather than a distinct species (R. longiceps), with lots of details about rhamphorhynchine ontogeny)

because of her sex & many wealthy “paleontologists" published claims of discovery based on having purchased fossils from Anning & other fossil hunters (neglecting to mention Anning's name or contribution). Nonetheless, many contemporary geologists & paleontologists became so impressed with her 🧵3/
