The pansting ghost has been spotted once again! This time in an office break room. If you see the ghost, please do not laugh at the victims or take photos or videos! 😳

I almost got away from the pansting ghost! 👻 It made off with my shirt and pants, leaving me in just my tighty whities, but I booked it and thought I was finally in the clear, but then a strange mist filled the room, and I looked down to see what looked like a hand reach out 😳

Yes! The very first disabled character I accidentally wrote had a debilitating dynamic pain condition (I was pansting and didn’t expect Noola to show up). She was also feisty as heck. She became my mentor to embrace life as I am. #SpoonieAuthChat
Spoonie Author Chat (for creatives who manage spoons), May 12, 2025:

Today is May 12 Awareness Day for folks who live with chronic pain/fatigue. Do you ever write characters who share your lived experience with these conditions?

I'm pansting. There are always huge revelations that I never saw coming, and sometimes they are so intense, that I might just pace the room and curse, or sit in disbelief, or cry, or... I never know what's coming and it's a rush and a thrill,a storm of emotions when that scene unfolds.
#pretendpanel, once again, cannot wait to hear your answers to this one...

January 24th: Is there a significant change you can remember that was like a huge revelation for you? (whether in your process, or between drafts, whatever)

Republicans have legalized pansting our children in WV.

I bet it will only be used on high achieving and uppity girls - and on pretty girls.

Which old white guys will decide it is their right to yank down little girls pants?

Generally we follow the big ideas and see what happens, building as we go. We tend to stop and reverse-outline when we get stuck or there's too many options. The reverse outline helps us see what we have clearly so that our next steps are more purposeful. Then we go pansting again #PretendPanel
Questions from the #pretendpanel
June 12th: by @vampireantihero.com: How do you approach your ideas? Do you start grand and sweeping, or do you start with small, intricate details? Do you plan before drafting, or do you reverse-outline and refine?

Wrote in Survival Instinct yesterday (2,826 words) and completed the last scenes I had outlined from back in 2015. Now I'm really pansting it...

Wrote over 1,062 words in a short story this evening. I'm pansting this story, so I don't know what percentage of the story I've completed. Felt so friggin' good to sit down and WRITE a longer form short story again. Much more work yet to do on it.

I planned. I have a sticky note timeline on my wall.
But now? Near the end of the manuscript?
The story leads.
Not plotting, not pansting.
Because the story lives in the in-between.

I bet he thinks those suspenders will somehow prevent me from pansting him. I accept the challenge. 😤✨

42. I've done a lot of pansting, and I still think that spontaneity is important, but for longer works I've taken to doing outlines or at least broad narrative conventions that give shape to a work. The important part is to narrow down what you need to write now to something workable.

Wow.
I do like pansting, I'm a panster. I like it a lot. I think I'm making up new #words there #writingcommunity.

Finished my #flashficfeb story on acceptance and it was all about time travel. Yeah, I made it work. Do not steal this idea, mine, mine, mine. Thanks Muse @storytellingco.bsky.social

OK, who's pansting mannequins? 🤣😤 made my day!

I feel that! May we both find a wonderful, happy medium full of pansting and plotting!
February 16, 2026 at 1:32 AM
I find that pansting requires so much more effort. You're always editing plot holes and the like.

Pantsing is more spontaneous, but I hate cleaning it up. My brain wants a more streamlined experience, but I keep ending up in chaos.

Which means twice as long in the first edit.

Pansting is akin to sailing. You might know the port you want to get to, and what general direction the currents flow, but not which way the winds will blow, so get ready to tack a time or two.

Zero Drafting - What is Zero Drafting and how can it help you in your writing?

Zero Drafting
Hi everyone! I hope you're all well. Today I am going to be exploring the idea of zero drafting! Zeo Drafting Many people believe that if you want to write fiction, you have to start with a complete and detailed outline of the plot and all of your character arcs, while others believe that you should "pants" your way through (pansting refers to the act of writing by the seat of your pants with no plan at all). But there is another method, known as zero drafting, which lies somewhere in the middle.

I am 100% convinced my life would be easier if I did some plotting on this heavily overlapping and interconnected 20 book series, rather than pansting the whole thing and piecing it together as I go.

Currently figuring out the final 2 character ages at the start of book, and the final start dates.

Made up Example:
Alden looked out on city of Ammos. /edit Describe city contrasting it's beautiful to his melancholy mood.
He turns away from it and sees Mayli.
"A cute comment from her."

Basically it becomes fill in the blanks for later while setting the scene. So plotting and pansting unite.
