#Papuans
Ahhhh got it, thank you for sharing. I’m from Tonga and until a few years ago have been mostly ingnorant about the atrocities and genocide happening to West Papua, like the article mentioned, I wish Pacific leaders were more vocal and truly stood in solidarity w Papuans

Indonesia has the power to control West Papua, the ambition to exploit its land, but where is that same determination when its forests are burning?
Sovereignty without responsibility is domination. And Indigenous Papuans are paying the price

Good to see more coverage about Papuans struggle for self determination becoming more mainstream, I just watched a video on YT last week that goes into the history a little, shit I didn’t know Japan was also wreaking havoc as well. Will def let you know my thoughts, most likely rage

How have I never heard about the Indonesian genocid of ethnic Papuans in West Papua?

"West Papua is already the most militarised zone in the Asia-Pacific region, with over 100,000 security forces based there – one for every twenty Papuans."

WEST PAPUA | Seven years of diplomatic promises.

Endless statements. Endless meetings. Yet independent UN observers still await access.

Meanwhile, Papuans face violence, displacement and fear.
Human rights cannot survive on diplomatic promises alone.

Seven years. Still waiting.

I lived in West Papua for years. I walked its forests and visited Indigenous communities

To outsiders, these fires are an environmental headline. To Indigenous Papuans, they threaten ancestral lands, traditions and generations of memories

Trees can grow back. A people's history cannot be replanted

Thank you for mentioning West Papua. I lived there for years, and it is heartbreaking how little international attention the suffering of Indigenous Papuans receives.

Palestine, Sudan and West Papua have different histories, but the silence surrounding human suffering is painfully familiar.

And West Papua is a painful example. Rainforests are cleared in the name of economic development, while Indigenous Papuans lose the land their communities have depended on for generations. What disappears is not just forest, but history, identity and a way of life that cannot simply be restored.

Police findings reportedly contradict the military’s account.

Who will answer for their deaths?

Australia will let Papuans enlist in the ADF under its new defence treaty with PNG, while conducting joint military training with Indonesia.

Australia is opening its military to Papuans from PNG while deepening military ties with Indonesia, accused of repressing Indigenous Papuans in West Papua.

West Papuan civil society calls for UN and Pacific access.

Think about that. In 2026, independent access is still a demand.

Indonesia says human rights are being addressed. But declarations aren’t independent investigations.

Let the UN in. Let the Papuans speak.
West Papuan civil society calls for UN and Pacific access to region

"Papuans resist by raising their flag, which can mean up to 15 years in prison, and with bows and smuggled rifles against helicopters, drones, and a military armed by the United States, Britain, South Korea, the Netherlands and France.

This is the resource war you’re not allowed to see."

These are not statistics. They are lives uprooted, families grieving, and communities suffering the consequences of armed conflict.

West Papua’s civilians deserve protection and justice. The world must not look away.

European Union cozies up to bloodstained Hindutva autocrat Modi in India.

EU doesn't care about West Papua where Indonesia has committed genocide & where tens of thousands of Papuans are refugees as a result of continued Indonesian attacks.

Instead Indonesia gets "shared common values" treatment.

Notably Ze'ev Jabotinsky, founder of modern Zionism, used this same "It's not that we hate Arabs, it's just impossible for both of us to get what we want" apologism while outlining the ideology ("he called it polite indifference")

It's like they knew from the start exactly what their movement was.
