And, of course, #ParadisParis would not be a Marjane Satrapi movie without a delightfully weird little musical number.

The very last scene of the very last film by Marjane Satrapi.

#ParadisParis

I had a theory that the core theme of Marjane Satrapi's work is her peculiar relationship with death.

Tonight, I'm watching her final film, #ParadisParis.

It starts with a cemetery owner showing off a luxury coffin, followed by Monica Bellucci waking up in a morgue. I think I'm on the right track.

#ParadisParis #marjanesatrapi

I don't know when Mattias Ripa, Satrapi's husband, was diagnosed with cancer. But #ParadisParis was released about 9 months before his death, and it's impossible not to read this scene as her trying to process the inevitability of saying goodbye to him.

There's a queer subplot in there, too, and of course it's mostly edited out of the Russian release.

But somehow they left this shot in!
