Photos on a white background are often used in publications, but sometimes the white box isn't perfectly white. Today I learned how to remove a background without painstakingly working on all the little features and damn, this looks good.

This arachnid is a Stripe-tailed Scorpion. They like to hide under rocks and other surface objects and can be found in the SW United States and NW Mexico. Photography on a white background is used to capture images of specimens for use in publications.

Paravaejovis (could be wrong) found at the Southwestern Research Station. I love the tiny chelicerae on scorpions. They're like cute little nubbins near their faces.

So finding this one under a rock last week while at #EntSoc24 (Phoenix AZ) brightened my day! 😊

We hit for the desert arachnid cycle at #BugShot Arizona, finding a tarantula, vinegaroons, scorpion, and a wind scorpion.

There are three species in the area we were hunting: northern scorpion (Paruroctonus boreas), yellow devil scorpion (Paravaejovis spinigerus), and Swollenstinger scorpion (Anuroctonus pococki). We only caught northerns and devils but several other groups caught swollenstingers.
