The opening sequence imagines an afterlife for Black men killed by police, and from there the collection moves through HIV, desire, grief and survival in lines that are performative, physical and unguarded. This is work that speaks plainly even when it's at its most lyrical, which makes it a good entry point for readers who suspect poetry isn't for them.

There’s kind of a similarity to ACAB (albeit a major difference between gender and job, in terms of buy-in, obviously) inasmuch as all men are implicated and/or affected by rape culture and misogyny, and not doing anything to change the status quo is the same as passively supporting it.

Yeah, I'm not sure she understands the meaning of "love." I love my kids, I love my wife, that doesn't mean I'm passively experiencing them with 100% joy all the time. We fight for love, we struggle with it; you should "love" reading because that means you'll stick around for better and worse.
