Passpointではなく802.1Xだけでも十分ではないのかという意見もあるかと思います。OpenRoamingほどのスケーラビリティが必要でないならば、1Xで良いと思っています。
それならなぜPasspointなのかというと、Androidのウェブベース設定がPasspointしか対応していないことが障害の一つとしてあるからです。Androidが採用しているPPS MO形式のフォーマットは、Wi-Fi AllianceがPasspoint用として設計したもので、1Xだけの設定には使えません。サポートして欲しいと話しても、Passpointを推したい連中なので、相手にしてくれません。

避難所にヤマハの基地局を持ち込まれていた人がいた。そのこと自体は大変素晴らしいと思います。
ただ、もし基地局がPasspointに対応していたらリモートで臨時にOpenRoaming対応できたかもしれないと思うと、少し残念です。
