The thing that makes this claim always ring hollow is that the most doggedly loyalist colonies of British North America that weren't Quebec and the New York merchant class was the Southern Colonies like Georgia and Carolina, and conversely the heart of the patriot movement was Massachusetts.
do any of the 'the american war of independence was a slaveholders revolt' people deal at all with the fact that later generations of british abolitionists were flatly sympathetic to the american claim (see: john bright)

Yup. The Belfast-isation of UK mainland politics, esp. in England. Wouldn't be surprised if Patriot Platform's blackshorts & the flagshaggers get inspiration & coaching from the Norn Irish Loyalist paramilitary nutters. The intermittent invoking of radical Protestant Christiantity is another tell.
I'll add that the failure to take down those tatty flags last year has just added to the air of intimidation and the sense among these racists that they can do what the fuck they like without consequences

It's many of the same PEOPLE. There's every reason to believe that a significant number of the soi-disant "Patriot Platform" activists are Northern Irish loyalists, and we know that "Danny Thommo" is deeply embedded in Loyalist groups.
