Visited Grade 1 again today. We talked about the equals sign meaning basically 'is the same as' and made shapes that were the same as each other different ways. #patternblocks
Grade 1 students are using pattern blocks to fill some templates two different ways.

In this game, you take it in turns to place a pattern block. The other player has to put one on their side to keep it symmetrical.

The design starts with a central orange square, surrounded by four white ‘teardrop’ shapes. Tan rhombuses fill the gaps. The pattern expands with more orange squares and tan rhombuses, plus blue rhombuses at the tips of the teardrops.
