Jean-Pierre Wimille was born #OnThisDay in 1908. A French Resistance hero in WW2, he would have been a rival to Alberto Ascari & Juan Manuel Fangio in the ’50s had he not been killed in practice for the ’49 #ArgentineGP. Pic: en route to ’37 #PauGP victory in a Bugatti T59S.

#OnThisDay 70 years ago Jean Behra won the non-championship #F1 #PauGP in a Maserati 250F - one of 12 non-championship F1 wins despite his never winning a championship F1 GP. F1 debutant Mario Alborghetti, 26, the son of rich parents, was killed in his own Volpini-Arzani Special.
