💥Announcement! Thursday 19.09.2024💥 🔥We are serious! The Ari peace statue stays!🔥 Thursday, 19.09.2024 | 04:00 | Karl-Marx-Allee 31 10178 Berlin Arrival: U5 Schillingstraße 📣 Call: https://asanb.noblogs.org/?p=8637 - @trostfrauen @koreaverband #b1909 #PeaceStatueStay! Since September 2020, the Ari Peace Statue has been a global place of remembrance in Berlin-Moabit for the ‘comfort women’ who were sexually enslaved by the Japanese military during the Second World War and for all victims of sexualised violence. It symbolises the suffering and resilience of the survivors. Now the district mayor of Berlin-Mitte, Stefanie Remlinger, is planning to have Ari removed on 28 September 2024. Her reasoning: a temporarily authorised work of art may remain in public space for a maximum of two years. In fact, however, there are many exceptions and the decision is at the discretion of the district! On 19 September 2024, the BVV will vote again on our residents' petition with 1,000 valid signatures and the recommendation of the Committee for Further Education and Culture on the permanent preservation of Ari. Come in large numbers and show the district office how much solidarity you have with Ari! 🫶

On 12 September at 8 pm, the documentary ‘The Murmuring 2 - Habitual Sadness’ will be shown once at the Klick cinema. ‘Habitual Sadness’ is a highly empathetic film that succeeds in depicting the continuity of war crimes in everyday life today. It was presented together with the first part, ‘The Murmuring’, as part of the 28th International Forum of New Cinema at the 48th Berlinale in 1998. Following the screening, Erika and Ulrich Gregor will discuss the current developments surrounding the Ari peace statue in Berlin-Moabit with Nataly Jung-Hwa Han from the Korea Association. The discussion will be moderated by director Alice Agneskirchner. Come along in large numbers! 🤍⭐️ About the participants: Erika and Ulrich Gregor opened the Arsenal cinema in 1970 with a few fellow campaigners. From then on, they showed films, films, films four times a day. Most of these films could only be seen at Arsenal in Germany before digitalisation. The cinema was almost always full. In the same year, the Gregors organised the newly created section of the Berlinale ‘The International Forum of New Cinema’, which they ran for thirty years. Nataly Jung-Hwa Han is Chairwoman of the Board of the Korea Association e.V. and has coordinated numerous events, projects and exhibitions in this role since 2012. She was instrumental in the erection of the peace statue in Berlin Moabit and founded the Museum of Comfort Women. Alice Agneskirchner is an author and director of documentary films of various lengths and genres, often including cross-over projects with feature film elements or archive material. She is a member of the German Film Academy, the German Television Academy and an active board member of the professional association AG Dok.

We remember all FLINTA* who were and are affected by gender-based, sexualized and war-related violence - in conflicts worldwide. We will read out the names of FLINTA* who have lost their lives as a result of this violence - to remember them and to fight for a future without violence. In Germany, one woman* dies every two days due to the violence of her* partner (Federal Government, 2024), worldwide there are thousands due to feminicides. We commemorate all women* and non-binary, inter-, trans- and agender people who have died as a result of patriarchal violence. On this day, we also honour the so-called ‘comfort women’ for their tireless efforts to make sexualised violence visible and break the silence. The current fight to preserve the Ari Peace Statue - a memorial against sexualised violence in times of war and a reminder of the comfort women - shows how deeply patriarchal structures are anchored here too. We are finally calling for the comprehensive implementation of the Istanbul Convention, which has been applicable law in Germany since 2018 and obliges us to combat gender-based violence. But the violence remains high. Our demand: the consistent implementation of the convention and effective measures against violence against women*, girls* and marginalised groups. For all those affected by sexualised violence, for Ari and for a future free of violence: come to our rally in front of the peace statue on 25 November. Together we will march to Tiergarten Town Hall to demonstrate for the preservation of the peace statue and the implementation of the Istanbul Convention. 💥Announcement! Friday 01.11.2024💥 🔥Invitation to the 24-hour vigil: We stand behind Ari!🔥 Friday, 01.11.2024 | 00:00 h - 24:00 h | Birkenstraße / corner Bremer Straße 10551 Berlin Arrival: U9 Birkenstraße | S41, S42 Westhafen 📣 Call: https://asanb.noblogs.org/?p=9089 - @trostfrauen #b0111 #PeaceStatueStay! Invitation to the 24-hour vigil: We stand behind Ari! On 30 September, we received the news that the Berlin Mitte district office had rejected the application to extend the special use of the Ari peace statue and ordered its removal by 31 October 2024. This decision not only ignores the will of the citizens and the BVV, but also the valuable educational work of the Korea Association and the ‘Trostfrauen’ museum, which are closely linked to the peace statue. But we are not giving up and are fighting back! To protect Ari, we have submitted an urgent application. Now we need your support - visibly! To show how much support there is for Ari and that we are actively protecting her, we are calling for a 24-hour vigil ‘We stand behind Ari!’ on Friday, 1 November, from 00:00 to 24:00. We are looking for people who are willing to spend time with Ari in 2-hour shifts and make it clear through their presence that Ari cannot be removed without further ado. The Mitte district office will see that: We won't let Ari down! If you are interested, please register alone or with friends here: https://pad.riseup.net/p/L1OtBW7hfg9AQsWEn3FH and write us a message to mail@koreaverband.de. (You can find the links in our bio!) Warm drinks, food, sleeping bags and seating will be provided - and of course everyone in the neighbourhood is welcome to contribute to the vigil with visits, warm food or simply support. One thing is certain: we will fight to the end! Berlin, be brave! Stand behind Ari and set an example for peace, human rights and against sexualised violence.

AG "Trostfrauen", Japanische Fraueninitiative Berlinerlin and Korea Verband e.V. invite you to the Community Commemoration "Remembering means Grieving - Grieving means Fighting" In conflicts, we often think of protest first or even feel powerless. But caring in the community also means creating spaces for mourning and solidarity. We invite you to commemorate with us the victims and survivors of sexualized violence in conflicts, the dead, and the living all over the world. 🕰 18.30 Program: Community Commemoration for all, laying down of flowers at the statue, reading of the resolution, cultural program: Dance Performance „post/origins of a woman“ of @dancetotheedge (Peace Statue, Unionsplatz, Bremer Str. 41, Berlin-Moabit) 🕰 19.30 Informal get-together for all ⚪️ Please wear white or light-colored clothes and bring flowers in the same colors. ⚪️ Background In 2015, the United Nations introduced the International Day for the Elimination of Sexualized Violence in Conflict as a day of remembrance to raise awareness of this issue and to put an end to conflict-related sexualized violence. As is so often the case, the grandly announced UN resolutions against sexualized violence fail to achieve their objectives. Therefore, we have deliberately chosen this day to honor the victims and survivors and also to pay tribute to all those activists who courageously dedicated their lives to the cause and also lost their lives before they could realize their dreams for peace. The Statue of Peace on Unionsplatz has become a place for this commemoration and for the fight against sexualized violence and for peace. It reminds us that only transnational solidarity over decades can bring about change. 🔈There is no statute of limitations on sexualized violence.
