Still relevant every day, even though this is an old cartoon. (I share it because it really makes this point so much more than words can say!)

Depends on the train. I think Amtrak essentially charges mileage-based fees, so the larger costs are generally (1) renting a private car and (2) getting it to and from whatever train you want to hitch it to. @peterlewis-jpg.bsky.social any insights?

h/t to @peterlewis-jpg.bsky.social for noticing this but as yet another example of why we don't care about costs, here's JB calling a four-station extension "the largest single transit project in CTA history", which is only true in terms of costs. High costs are a talking point, not a constraint.
Incredibly proud to be part of the federal and local effort to bring the Red Line Extension, the largest single transit project in CTA history, a step closer to reality.

By extending to 130th, we're sparking new economic opportunities for the South Side.
Red Line Extension Secures $2 Billion In Federal Funds Before Trump Takes Office
Transit officials said last month they were "confident" they'd strike the deal to extend the Red Line south to 130th Street before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. Trump lobbied to kill th...

Today's crayon: a riff on @peterlewis-jpg.bsky.social's Double Loop, a Jefferson St subway to create a "West Loop". Replaces Blue Line UIC turns with a new "Teal Line", and puts the Pink Line back in the subway. Uses the extant flying junction at Milwaukee/Lake and adds a new one south of Grand.

Macabre Month 7 Part VII: Untraceable (2008)
When you think about it, the Internet really is a reflection of humanity as a whole, the digitised summation of practically every thought, every innovation, and every endeavour catalogued and ready to be experienced. There's also a cloud to this silver lining; terrible things do lie underneath, as they lie underneath some people’s hearts. In 2008, the nightmares of the deep, dark web were made into a terrifying reality in Untraceable.
