After the shockingly awful Planet Rock blues poll, an alternative 10, according to moi.

A list that doesn't include Elmore James is like a bicycle without wheels.

My king of country blues, a gentle singer, and a fingerpicker extraordinaire.

Arguably the most important blues artist of them all, just ask Jimmy Page....

Willie did not make that list.

Eighteen on THAT list were guitarists, this says a lot.

📏

Any, here's Mr. Spann, THE blues pianist(to me, anyway), much more to him than boogie-woogie.

The LIST did not contain one artist who used the harmonica as their main instrument. Absolute fruitcakery.

Here's the Master of the Blues Harp, Little Walter.

Victoria Spivey, known as "Queen Victoria", true blues royalty.

Singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist(dab hand at the uke too), actress, record label owner(these 2 are on Spivey records). She really was something else.

One of the great jazz & blues collaborations, showcasing Vinson's vocals(and alto sax playing), he was one of the finest blues singers.

Quintet members, Cannonball & Nat, Sam Jones, Louis Hayes, & Joe Zawinul.

Currently doing a #PetesBlues 10, just to remove the foulness.

EIGHTEEN guitar players.

EIGHTEEN.

The voters tiny dick energy is off the fucking charts.

Finishing the list with some holy blues, or gospel blues, Blind Willie Johnson was a key performer of this style. John The Revelator & Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed are 2 of his most famous tunes, incredible.

Thanks for interacting, there's much more to blues than guitar noodlery.

And, we're back....!

No blues top 10 would be complete without the Empress Of The Blues, Bessie Smith.

Equipped with a remarkable contralto voice, whatever emotion was required in a song, sadness, joy, love, anger, envy, she delivered, and you believed her.

Ooh, look at that! George recorded so many amazing songs & artists.

FYI, ##PetesBlues is back with #9...

One of the records that was noted as part of Sister Rosetta Tharpe's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Not as raucous as some of her other albums, this shows what a truly great singer & player she was.
