Phil May (1864-1903) delighted in drawing Cockney types for Punch, reflecting life & humour of the London streets at the turn of the century. The text read:-

The Pretty Things gig at Aylesbury was the second ever Friars promotion and went some way to establishing the club on the music circuit. #ThePrettyThings return in 2009 saw them pay complement to Friars

Long time front man of Pretty Things. His band played High Wycombe numerous times from 1964 to 1971. Also played Friars Aylesbury in 1973 and then a homecoming in 2009

Born 9 Nov 1944, Phil May, singer with the Pretty Things. He sang on all of their singles, which included 'Rosalyn', (covered by Bowie on his Pinups album) 'Don't Bring Me Down', 'Road Runner' & 'Cry to Me'. They took their name from Willie Dixon's 1955 song 'Pretty Thing'. #PhilMay #PrettyThings
