Stunning late summer blooms 🧡
Lichen in a dead Photinia hedge outside a Dairy Queen. The branches are just coated with it, a grey and yellow kaleidoscope all the way down. And it never needs to be pruned! It makes me sad that at some point the colony will all be cut down and replaced by sad little junipers or whatever. #lichen

I weeded under all the Photinia shrubs and skimmed the lawn to get rid of the grass that was going to seed. I’m hoping the rain due this week will stimulate some growth before the lawn goes dormant.

Photinia is popular round here & has the attractive red growth but it is very like laurel (imo). Box grows surprisingly fast but there's the poss problem of box moth. >

Round here there’s a lot of Photinia Red Robin which I always enjoy in the spring for its red leaves followed by pink frothy blooms, but I don’t know how it fares in different soils. Good hedge material though.
