I just installed #pihole at home and I'm so so so so so so sad that it doesn't freackn block youtube ads

narrowed it down to actually be the 23rd of last month at 14:47:21 (last thing written by pihole to the microsd card was at that exact time, might be a few minutes off)

I tried to update my pihole and it failed and I looked in journal and saw some weird delayed write errors

turns out the microsd card in my pi broke in a very specific way where it reads things just fine but writing anything new to it is impossible

This is a long-shot but what the heck: does anybody here have experience running wireguard VPN to allow external connections to a jellyfin server?

I've followed the instructions to allow my pihole to be usable outside my network via wireguard, but I don't *really* know what I'm doing.

My fear […]

with the new one, don't forget to go through the Byzantine process to turn off all the spyware, or get yourself a PiHole. The advantage of PiHole being that if you've paid for the ad free version of Channel4, you can actually stop the ads that they still show for "contractual reasons"

@atpfm @caseyliss @siracusa I avoid the discussed problem via tailscale. My pihole is only accessible via tailscale, which is also nice for security. Then I have my phone in the tailnet (but without exit node activated!). This means all DNS goes to my remote pihole and data flows directly and […]

moved pihole to my new server tonight, the last item to migrate.officially swapped it out for the old one

It's absurdly so much faster at everything, the old server was from jan2014 so yeah, but

Well done #youtube -- pat on the back for making the official client experience hell while offering up no new useful features.

If this doesn't get fixed, I'll just have to go full pihole.

You can spare yourself from this;
- Vivaldi browser with ads blocked
- Ublock Origin Lite
- piHole DNS blocker
- For everyone that's not Harry Turtledove, you can buy a book by Harry Turtledove, whose books to my knowledge do not feature Liberty Biberty. I haven't read them all though.

Mon pihole commence à me couper l’accès à des .gouv because CNAME justement !

was having some weird Internet problems all of a sudden, we even called our ISP and all. Had no idea what it could be

turns out I unplugged the pihole I set up as the network's only DNS server

so this is home networking™

A router that can do VLAN's + policy based routing would do the trick, or a PiHole. But that doesn't really protect you, the TV's still collect data and send it back to remote servers, you've just changed the route by using a VPN and hiding your network source IP

Every single one of 21 tested vehicles sent data to a third-party domain over Wi-Fi. Over half contacted domains specializing in advertising, tracking, or analytics.

These companies gather details about your vehicle or driving behavior to sell to insurance companies or target you with ads.
Your car’s data privacy problems are worse than you think
“There’s a lot to be worried about,” the project lead said.

SLPS has 3D printers! I need a case printed for a raspberry pi — gonna PiHole my network — and it's gonna cost me the grand total of $1 through the library. Another W for public services.

I have adblockers and a pihole and don't watch broadcast TV so I don't see that many ads. I don't watch much stuff on Amazon, but we were watching a movie the other day and it was all ads for AI and the visceral reaction I had was startling to me.

Last night I managed to work around the problem by setting up some ad hoc local DNS entries in PiHole; but everything remains extremely unstable: once a client goes into standby mode, access to the libraries on the LAN becomes very slow again.

Lol. I have an ad-blocker DNS server (the free pihole) on my home network. It's *so peaceful* and uncluttered to browse or search the internet. As soon as I use my phone *outside* my home network tho everything turns to shit. Ads, ads, ads, popups, tracking cookies, ads. It's effectively unusable.
September 28, 2026 at 9:27 PM
They won’t even load on my network because of my pihole blocking ads and their site not liking that. I should just redirect all dns for the fandom domain to antifandom. Useful lifehack: change any fandom wiki url from x.fandom.com/whatever to x.antifandom.com/whatever to make it immediately usable
