Colchester Town Hall from earlier today (I went on a Henry Collins and Joyce Pallot mural mooch earlier - more on that later). Anyway, this rather grand building in the Edwardian Baroque style was by John Belcher and opened in 1902. Reminds me of Alfred Brumwell Thomas’s Woolwich Town Hall a bit.

Finally got around to putting the pilasters in the milk crate. A lot of learning went on with this first attempt. Next thing is to buy a piece of wood to use as a shelf. OR, I could cut up a milk crate to make shelves out of its sides. Which to do?

Those paired plain pilasters with the bridging capitals that link them together are a motif used in William IV fireplace surrounds and other features. Which means the style lingered at least a couple of years after his death. There's also many terraces with the features in London reaching into 1840s

Grein Funeral Directors, 2114 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago. Built in 1931. Their website says the architect was "G. Gaul" of Hermann J. Gaul & Son, but I can't find G. Gaul mentioned anywhere else. Also, this building is not on Chicago's Historic Resources Survey.
