2/2: See the fragment of lettering along the stem? This is the maker's name, and I've worked out it's Henry Dudman of Plumstead, who was pipemaking from at least the 1860s until the 1890s.

Northumbrian Smallpipes chanter held between centers on a lathe. An end mill bit is mounted on a flex shaft rotary tool and cut holes into the chanter. Northumbrian Smallpipes with all tone holes drilled: 7 in the front and one in the back.

I received some nice, dry boxwood yesterday. I have about 20 lb. in the shop, but it's still pretty green. I'll use these pen blanks to practice turning mounts. I'm looking forward to it, as boxwood is legendary for how great it turns.

I just finished boring a blank for an F chanter in Bolivian rosewood. Not too bad. Next: reaming.

1” rod of about 12” length. The wood is dark brown with black lines. A hole in the rod shows where the bit came in. A hole, slightly off center, shows where the bit came out.
