Have a pic to this valentines day preprint from the #PlantChemetics lab!
The apoplastic battleground never disappoints!
Congrats to Tee et al!

Bacterial pathogen deploys iminosugar galactosyrin to manipulate plant glycobiology
The extracellular space (apoplast) of plants is an important molecular battleground during infection by many pathogens. We previously found that a plant-secreted β-galactosidase BGAL1 acts in immunity...

Jie Huang ( #PlantChemetics lab) and I wrote a dispatch on Zhang et al.'s work (www.nature.com/articles/s41...) describing a #protease effector that cleaves the extracellular domain of a plant receptor-like kinase, and it's none other than BAK1!

Enjoy!

Thrilled to share the latest work from the #PlantChemetics lab!
Alice set out to uncover the function of one of the most prominent cysteine #proteases in the apoplast, and found that it regulates receptor kinase homeostasis. I’m grateful to have been part of this exciting work.

Renier's expertise in dissecting probes led to suggesting the right experiments. This invaluable experience was my initiation on probe development, a research line I now continue in my own lab.
Once I left the #PlantChemetics lab, the incredible skill of Kaijie ensured completion of the project

This started as one of my postdoc projects in the #PlantChemetics lab aimed to explore new activity-based probes for plant cysteine proteases.
We started with the known cysteine protease inhibitor E-64 linked to different fluorophores and my task was to test the one that would label best.
