Cutleaf Daisy (Engelmannia peristenia) has been showing off all spring, and here we are in August and it is still blooming. One of my favorite native yellows. And the bees love it, too.

It makes a perfect accent plant. It is said to resemble a smaller version of Big/Lindheimer Muhly. Pine Muhly is drought-tolerant and tolerates part shade, although it prefers sun. Amazing addition to any garden.

It should not be hedged, but instead let grow naturally, and trimmed back late winter to promote more blooms (since it blooms on new wood) and have a fuller plant.

Got shade? Inland Sea Oats is an attractive native grass for shade. It provides texture, movement and vertical interest. Birds enjoy the seeds and it is a larval host plant to skipper butterflies.
