A fascinating thing about Miscanthus is its unique feature of combining the efficient C4 photosynthesis of the tropical grasses with low temperature tolerance, and that is why it is such an exciting biomass crop.

Gorse is one of my favourite plants because its bright yellow, coconut‑scented flowers brings a cheer to dull wet days, and it is also a practical plant, providing excellent shelter from wind and rain for sheep, especially at lambing time.

Teff: A tiny grain, big impact:

Teff (Eragrostis tef) is a gluten-free crop from Ethiopia and one of the smallest grains on Earth.
Despite its size, it’s rich in nutrients and remarkably resilient, thriving even in harsh conditions making it a truly climate-smart crop.

I have always been fascinated by the Poppy plant and their many different varieties which is one reason I started gardening. They are such a robust plant and very forgiving while providing pollen for bees and a place to rest due to their size.

Snowdrop

The snowdrop always brings me joy — a quiet signal that spring is on its way.

A small flower — and such powerful reminders of resilience, renewal, and the stories plants carry with them.

Marram Grass

I walk or run through the dunes almost every day and love the way there are never two days the same. It amazes me how it not only survives the wild storms and harsh conditions, but shapes the very dunes in which it thrives

Pitcher plants have some extraordinary adaptations that allow them to thrive in low nutrient habitats. Instead of relying on poor soils, they entice, trap and digest insects, gaining the nutrients they need to grow and survive.

This photo was taken at Farmyard Nurseries, Llandysul.
