Kerria japonica Pleniflora. Chrome yellow with blue sky. Very cheerful indeed. I am, however, churlish enough to wish the single-flowered species, denizen of Japanese mountainsides, was more commonly seen. altogether more elegant and graceful.

The pleniflora cherry outside our front door is in full, riotous bloom. Yesterday morning, Hiro and I had a hanami moment. The leaves of the tree, warmed by the sun, wafted a fragrance of sakura mochi, a Japanese treat wrapped in edible sakura leaves.

This flower survived because it was in a cool, shady spot.
At the edge of a certain lot： A vermilion traffic cone (above), a black water control valve cover (left) and Mirabilis jalapa (center). This mirabilis has a 90% white flower with 10% deep pink at the 9 o'clock position and a 100% dark pink flower (left). Under the sunlight filtering through the trees: In the center of the picture, Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora' has one yellow flower in full bloom and one that has shriveled and turned white.
