idk traditionally people with a vested stake in the old ways have called it heresy, the tumult over AI is absolutely bog standard. painters hated photography, arithmetic-knowers hated pocket calculators, the people who memorized epic poems hated writing, etc, etc

Muskmelons in Central Asia are incredible. Uzbekistan, yes. But the best muskmelon I've ever had was in Kandahar, in August.

Tell me you live in the US etc. I never had fruit as divine as the ones in Uzbekistan in late October. Indescribably fragrant melons, persimmons in a dazzling variety of forms, at least a dozen types of grapes, gooey figs. Closer to home we have pears, blackberries, plums... Autumn is harvest time!
Autumn fruit is always so disappointing. Just apples, the basic bitch of the fruit world.

Novels (and long poems) that were written before television and the internet are a challenge for today's reader. *Moby Dick* is a great one even if, like me, one reads a limited number of novels. Dostoyevski and Proust not being on this list is impossible to defend.
