There are people will literally lose a Senate election for their own party to prevent a politics that delivers healthcare for everyone and incorporates human rights into policymaking.

We discussed the idea of Canada being the first Associate Member of the EU.

And what it would mean in practice.

A focus on the prosperity & security of our people.

Through closer policymaking, participation in EU programmes and inter-institutional work.

We're at the start of a journey ↓

Hopefully this story won’t get interpreted as “all CCS is bad” or “all carbon dioxide removal efforts are bad.” Rather, it’s another data point in how corporate capture threatens independent science and policymaking.

just here to drop off the citation. and btw, you should not believe a politician who tells you they won’t let their personal bigotry affect their policymaking , because it’s never true
OneIowa has issued a statement confirming that Josh Turek is personally a TERF, yet promised to not let his personal views affect his policy

I enjoyed reading Mike’s piece.

Imho regardless of your political orientation, the next few years (at least) of policymaking will involve making unpleasant tradeoffs and tightening belts

The “slack resources” context of the late 2010s is gone
New post: I'm not sure if this is a spicy take or not, but I don't think the 2028 "ideas primary" will look like 2020.

It's worth noting fans and critics of 2020 both emphasize that it could. But there's at least 11 reasons the world is too different.

Record-breaking cash from superrich donors pouring into governors’ races raises the question of how much influence the spenders will ultimately have over policymaking by the officials they spent so much to help elect. bit.ly/3WaknjP
Who’s Trying to Buy the Governor’s Mansion?
Billionaires, super PACs, and dark money groups are flooding competitive gubernatorial races with cash.

That might be covered by #3 in someone’s mind. But democratizing the state may cost you efficacy in the realm of policymaking. So I think this is rather complicated.

They are, absolutely. But a govt that keeps telling the media - falsely - that its plans will save £10bn must expect to be challenged on what's happened to that saving when it (partly) changes course. So much dire policymaking on this subject comes from a refusal to speak truthfully to the public.

With no public hearings, and likely no major amendments, on a bill that includes the most significant changes ever on the environmental law that's supposed to increase public transparency and engagement, and look before you leap policymaking!

It's long been clear that money buys access to government officials, making it nearly impossible for everyday Americans to compete with wealthy special interests.

We must address the influence of money in policymaking and put the interests of the American people above those of the rich & powerful.

I am generally not keen on the field of economics, and think it is given too much uncritical trust in policymaking, but I think Amartya Sen is one of the greats, and one of the very deepest thinkers in the field. I learned so much about the limitations of how a lot of "environmental economists"
Happy 93rd birthday to Amartya Sen.

He was awarded the 1998 prize in economic sciences "for his contributions to welfare economics."

Sen was born in Santiniketan, Bengal, in India and attended a school founded by another Nobel Prize laureate - Rabindranath Tagore.

Why don't we have policymaking education programs for regular people who want to go in to government?
October 30, 2026 at 3:34 PM
I have views on the other propositions as well but none grounded in my economic policymaking knowledge so I'm not sharing them here--I don't think everyone needs to share their opinion on everything here. At least that's my opinion--but admittedly not something I'm expert on!

How differently would our policymaking look if we saw all children as belonging to all of us?
Texans: why are our public services so bad?

Also Texans: if you raise the sales tax a fraction of a cent to pay for special education we’ll kill you

Like it or lump it the conversion practices bill is seen as a bellwether for pro LGBT and, specifically, pro trans, policymaking making it through to legislation.

Loopholes need closing, but also we need the bill to pass - even if it is an act of throwing a bone

The sense I get is that Turkish is more interested in money than in policymaking.
I could be wrong. Of course, protection of Jewish Democrats matters. But there is a distinct difference between protecting Jewish Democrats in the diaspora and protecting the Likud Party in Israel.

yeah it really hits pretty close to the pinnacle of stupid/evil policymaking
