Over a decade ago, I followed every arts student and launched an biannual literary journal that mixed policywriting with photography, art, poetry and even music compositions – with a volunteer editorial team on a shoestring budget of about $5,000. It lives on as Jacaranda and its spinoff Footnotes.

Terrible advice for writers: "Avoid the passive." You cannot write sophisticated prose on a complex matter without the aid of the passive.
