*Put simply, no political leader can trust the US to defend them against Russian, or Chinese nuclear attack. The result is catnip for militarists keen to build up nuclear stockpiles. It’s also a recipe for proliferation of nuclear nations & false alarms leading to deadly results. This secretive …

“this book clearly explains how American militarists, Middle Eastern autocrats, and Israeli extremists drive the pain and dislocation we have endured for three-quarters of a century. It is a pain that grows only more intense with each passing year.” - Rami Khouri

I come from a country that was thought to have dissolved its empire 30 years ago, but then refused to properly process and bury its past, which led to old militarists resurfacing under the reign of a zombie emperor.

So trust me when I say that the Star Wars sequels are very much political.
It is indeed a vivid metaphor. (Sometimes so vivid that it feels like it’s for people who can’t grasp metaphor at all.) And I love it! But I’m VERY tired of the notion that the sequels weren’t discussing modern fascism and the current climate. STRONGLY disagree with the highlighted section.

In 3 sentences: The book examines the lives, political activity, and memories of the wives, concubines, and daughters of the regional militarists who governed early twentieth-century China. Advocates of gender equality, women's rights, and even communist revolution in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s,

I don't know how Taiwan is calculating this, but putting these numbers out is good political warfare. Whatever the precise cost of the military parades and exercises, there are many other pressing social needs that are being starved of resources. Militarists should be shamed

The actual lesson that Dems need to learn from this is that there is no political recognition or reward for ending a 20-year war started by GOP.

They will still be called "militarists" and "warmongers" even as Trump is threatening half the Western hemisphere with invasion and annexation.

Its going to be a multi-front press. On one side, "you don't want to fall behind China" to the militarists and national chauvinists. And then if they don't get picked, there will be lawsuits and political interventions from congresscritters already bought and paid for at pennies on the dollar.

Restoration-era political slogans like “Enrich the country, expand the military“ and “Revere the Emperor, expel the barbarians“ (modified in the 20th Century to “Destroy the traitors” meaning liberals, socialists, ant-imperialists and the like) were used by militarists to justify both -

There WAS a wing of the party that actively supported socialist policies.

But Hitler had them purged. He wanted to ingratiate himself and the Nazis with industrialists, militarists, and nationalists. And these became the dominant political guides of the party.

1) We should be reframing Bai as "a reformer, or even as a revolutionary." Yes. True of many militarists in this period. And Kelly's right here -- Bai more than most.

2) Bai's role as a prominent Muslim matters; he used his military standing to carve out political spaces for Muslims... /2

In Japan during WWII, the only meaningful political debates were between factions of what are now called "the militarists." Just thinking about that again for no reason...need to watch Yumeji.
Speaking of Erika Kirk & Candace Owens & massive major fascist media consolidation, Megan McCain calling Candace Owens "evil" for making an Erika Kirk documentary is part of a coordinated fash infighting smear campaign including CatTurd2 against Candace Owens for making an Erika Kirk documentary

Raging Against the Machine
Donald Trump’s America is a scary place in significant part thanks to an unholy alliance of MAGA devotees who don’t believe in science and see intellectuals as public enemy number one, and a gaggle of Silicon Valley militarists who think that they’re the smartest people in the room, if not the universe. Add in White Christian nationalists who abuse religious precepts to sow hatred and division and you have the foundations of the political base that elected Donald Trump (twice!). And worse yet, those groupings are likely to be with us long after our current president has gone off to that great cheeseburger stand in the sky. Still, it’s worth reflecting on whether such an odd coalition of allies can survive without Donald Trump, or even with a president whose policies have become so harmful and irrational that they’re doing severe human and economic damage even to his most loyal supporters (not to mention the rest of us). And it’s also worth considering whether the pillars of the MAGA movement can manage to stick together in the ever-grimmer Trumpian years to come, not to speak of the post-Trumpian ones, or whether the rest of us can organize a powerful, humane...

If only DNC had not launched his political career, elevated his campaign & thrown 2 elections to him by force-nominating 'centrist' militarists who support/adopt most of his policies (e.g. DAPL, Line3, Willow, border wall, fracking, wolf extermination, mass child murder for Zionism) #BothPartiesSuck

We see, for example, political violence used to remove or intimate opposition to militarization - very similar to violence in Weimar Germany. Military officials created fake "incidents" to pressure the government. Over time, militarists seized increasing influence until they suborned democracy.

I’m a progressive (not a “Sinophile”) so I want Democrats to be in the right place on China. They’re not. Biden’s confrontational policy would have led to conflict, creating a permanent political advantage for militarists and nationalists.

I make that argument here:

Putin is obliged to perform for the Kremlin apparatchiks because a pause would be seen as weakness and embolden his political enemies. The scripted fate of failed Russian militarists is a brutal demise and thus will it end for Putin.
