“King Tut”

I created this 7 ft sarcophagus from old roof tin/fabric mache from old t-shirts/carved scrap wood/painted it with Walmart acrylics. Tut’s Dad outlawed polytheism in favor of the Bible Sunday God. When Dad died Tut returned Eygpt to polytheism.

I am not religious, but isn't God *meant* to be non-binary, in that followers of monotheist traditions are being asked to believe in a deity that transcends earthly concepts like gender? As opposed to polytheism, where there are lots of gods of both genders (and much chaos)

The fungibility of polytheism is a difficult thing for modern minds to grasp.

On this day Roman emperor Julian ascends to power in 361. His reign would be marked through trying to bring back polytheism to Rome (giving him the nickname "Apostate") and a military campaign against Persia.

As a former Catholic, they are a lot closer to polytheism than they want to admit. They worship God... and Jesus... and the Holy Spirit... oh and Mary is really great... hey why are there so many statues of different Saints and angels?

Yay for polytheism! So much more interesting and practical. Relying on only one god (and, a male one to boot...) to get everything done and on time??? Really????

'Libya's highest religious authority has banned Muslims from buying, selling or wearing Nike clothes arguing the logo promoted symbols associated "with polytheism". Libya is home to the ancient Greek city of Cyrene, where remains include a statue of the goddess Nike.' ✔️

Imagination really is great, especially when we see gods as reflections of Man. Then, when seeing the pen hand of Man throughout history, many things fall into place that can be deduced within reasonable limits.

Regardless, I love Polytheism. it's so much fun.

So, at the bar of truth, the laws of the nations such as those about images and godless polytheism are laws of the Scythians or, if possible, more impious than theirs. Therefore it is not wrong to form associations against the laws for the sake of truth.

Yep—like some other people have mentioned, I always headcanon it (and some of the other patented dumb fantasy takes on polytheism) out of existence, and I have no idea why the 1990s writers inflicted it on us.

centuries of greek myth, abrahamic monotheism, and the cultural remnants of pre-israelite polytheism all intermingling and merging together in mutual parallel evolution. then later of course once messianic christianity emerged it was *very* easy to transpose onto prometheus myths in and of itself

Yeah, usually what makes it better is context that they DON'T want you to hear, like these are stories from a religion shifting from polytheism to monotheism, and aren't meant to be about an all good, all knowing, all loving god

Saints are a little polytheism treat

Primitive man feared the natural world, thunder, lightning. He invents Gods that control these and others. Polytheism becomes monotheism but the male God gets to keep his penis. Men who wrote the stories felt that was important.

can’t even really find any support online because any discussion just immediately devolves into terminological bickering. as a pagan i’m used to this but man at least the people who say “hellenic polytheism” don’t generally go around ostracising you and calling you a bigot if you say “hellenism”

It's honestly a shame that the default DnD take on religions ended up being the pseudo-monotheist "polytheism" with a bunch of gods where everyone worships one and only one of them.

They get "polytheists" wrong where grumpy Heathen curmudgeons like me are concerned but .... 😂

If you parse the OT carefully, you can see the Hebrews going from polytheism to henotheism to, by NT times, monotheism. Naturally I think henotheism was the BETTER stopping place! 🤭

No, we don’t believe you “tacked on extra bits.” The Christian concept of god (a trinitarian godhead that they claim isn’t polytheism Because Trust Us Bro) is foundationally different from the Jewish concept of God, even the way out their Kabbalistic conceptions of it.
