As you watch this time-lapse of a storm rolling over Pondicherry, India by Karthik Easvur, you may spot a sort of rolling wave called an ARCUS or SHELF cloud.

It forms as the storm's downdraft, along the leading edge of the moving storm, forces warmer, moist surface air up unto a horizontal 'roll'.

Pondicherry Fan-throated Lizard (Sitana laticeps) 🦎

Found in India, famous for its vibrant, fan-like throat flap that males flash to attract mates or warn rivals.
The colors of its throat change becoming brighter during mating season!

A great day of research at Kew.

Here's an aquatint of Pondicherry, probably c. 1730s-1750. Never published afaik.

Happy to be back in London for the next six months!

Nearly finished tracking all Indian buyers at pre1760 Pondicherry estate sales
Here, in 1726, Patché/பச்சை purchased 50 pairs of glasses& 3 boxes of Chinese silk flowers 👓💐
Bittersweet feelings as I approach the end of the PhD. Not sure what next year will bring but relieved to be done w/inventories!

@bsky.app #MolluscMonday Back from the dead. The ‘Lazarus’ gastropod Calyptraphorus was once believed to have become extinct in the Eocene until a Pliocene species some 30 million years younger was discovered. This specimen is Calyptraphorus palliata from the Late Cretaceous of Pondicherry, India.
