Popchomp voluntarily drank "lightweight" crystal soda to demonstrate how potent the excess doses can get; After a whole 2l bottle, the Puffer Garchomp became a huge weather balloon with heavy quantitites of helium slowly increasing.

It's very likely that Mega Evolution enhances these genes to make Popchomp much, MUCH stretchier than he normally would be. However, once he does get a lot bigger than normally, he needs to remain Mega Evolved during that point or deflate, lest he accidentally 💥DETONATES💥 with a destructive force!
