Only problem; what is that plausible future? I don't think anyone has any idea. On top of that the general population doesn’t believe that you can 'fix' things unless you can bring back 'making things'. And populists feed on that despite the fact that they know full-well that it isn't possible.

Seems to be a cross-Europe view that bringing back manufacturing jobs will defeat the populists. Pity there's no evidence that you can or that it would work.

it probably is electoral suicide...just like Theresa May's "dementia tax". All of these things are necessary. but the British public cant understand that. They want Scandinavian style public services with American style taxes...and we have enough populists on left and right telling them that's ok.

Sounds when Riikka Purra managed to put millions of taxpayers money to lower gasoline prices in Finland by a few sents. Did much good in the long run right? Money that could have been invested into society was used to try to stave of the markets for a short while for minimal gains. But populists...
