We can skip Node.js, or Electron, and compile TS/JS to native. Soooooooo much easier to do these days with AIs. Several paths:

TS -> AssemblyScript -> Wasm -> wasm2c -> native

TS/JS -> Porffor -> native

TS/JS -> JS2 -> Wasm -> wasm2c -> native

I created a little shell script that can download the Porffor binary you want which you can use with the `--porf` argument. It's hard coded to Linux (I use Arch btw), but it's a couple character change if you use something ~~worse~~ else

Terminal showing an alias being set to the custom build of the gleam cli, then running `get-porffor-version 6` which downloads the binary to `./porf-alpha-6`. After that running `gleam export porffor --target wasm --porf ./porf-alpha-6` and `wasmer run build/dev/porffor/gleam_porffor.wasm` which outputs `Hello from Porffor/alpha 6 (038f415 2026-09-15)`

Wasm support unfortunately broke again after Alpha 6, but you'll now be warned if you're using a Porffor version that is broken or hasn't been tested (although I don't currently distinguish between the two)

Porffor Alpha 9 and above now supports ESM natively, so no more pre-bundling 🎉

My @gleam.run cli patch (see above thread) still supports older Porffor versions by parsing the version to detect whether pre-bundling is still required. You can also now provide a path to a non-global porf install.

the latest version of Porffor features ESM support! it not only removes needing a bundler beforehand but also makes compilation much faster as we can split C across modules

compilation time, selfhosted
react 17.31s → 4.16s (4.2x)
svelte 7.30s → 2.21s (3.3x)
preact 5.17s → 1.63s (3.2x)
solid 9.95s → 2.80s (3.6x)

All those set->setXY renames were a workaround for a small Porffor issue that has since been fixed, so the diff can be a lot smaller now.

Oh yes, indeed! Been meaning to circle back to Porffor.

A little while back I compiled parts of Three.js to Wasm with Porffor as a test, with only a few small tweaks to Three.js source needed. Gonna be interesting to try Porffor with static Chromium linkage too.

WASM is now working (on a really simple test case)! Thanks to Mendy Berger for making the PR to porffor to support WASM again github.com/CanadaHonk/p...

Terminal in a directory called "gleam-porffor-example" showing an alias to a local build of the gleam cli with some modiciations. It then running "gleam export porffor --target=wasm" which Porffor-ed and Wasmified the build. Finally running wasmer on the generated wasm file which outputs "Hello from Porffor/alpha 5 (1f4ae4a 2026-09-10)"

I was unexpectedly included in the @rauchg.blue OSS grant for `tmcp` and the work on the svelte AI tools.

It's absolutely wild to see my name and projects next to real foundational work like `knip`, `kitty` or `porffor`
