K-Dawg took me whale watching and we saw THREE families of transient orcas, FOUR HUMPBACK EMEFFING WHALES, and ~harbor porpoises.

It feels illegal to have friends this good.

I just discovered bowheads and I have a new fave. Likely the longest lived mammals.

As for dolphins/porpoises, they are closer related to their fellow toothed whales than baleen whales, they're definitely whales.

there’s actually some evidence suggesting orcas can learn to “speak dolphin” (mostly in captivity when they are housed alongside porpoises) so that may well be the case for him. or the dolphins are just like “he’s huge and speaks gibberish but he’s our buddy”

At the whales don't keep going on and on about it the way certain porpoises would.

Hey, for all intensive porpoises, she’s right

This makes sense for all in tents and porpoises.

The version I heard was "transporting miners across a staid lion for immortal porpoises"

🐳 Ever wondered how marine mammals survive freezing deep-ocean waters? It’s all in their lipidome! 🐋 Cetacean blubber isn't just "fat"- it’s a dynamic, matrix packed with triacylglycerols, wax esters, and plasmalogens that provide thermoregulation, buoyancy, and rapid energy.

Today was sadly my only Hurlstone Point cetacean survey this year. Met a walking group of teachers from the town (and school) where I grew up (NE Hampshire). After a VERY quiet survey, 2 harbour porpoises turned up 3 mins before the survey end! Hooray! 💚💙

Algal bloom, maybe? There was a similar story - I think porpoises - a few days ago, right?

The baby and I got up early enough this morning to go down to the coast to check out the songbird and butterfly sanctuary. We lasted less than 5 min before the bugs chased us away. So we went to the beach instead. Unfortunately the ferry wasn't running so didn't get to see any porpoises.
