Wheatear 1. Redstart 2 f-type. Tree Pipit 1 Rocket Quarry - just perched on the Elder rather than feeding on it.
Total of 15 Clouded Yellows.

For #StandingStoneSunday here is the lovely Hell Stone, a neolithic dolmen that stands on Portesham Hill above the village of the same name. Described as "badly restored" by Wikipedia, a bunch of farmers rearranged the stones in 1866. No mean feat, they are impressive stones. 📷 me 06/05/2025

For #StandingStoneSunday here is the lovely Hell Stone, a neolithic dolmen that stands on Portesham Hill above the village of the same name. Described as "badly restored" by Wikipedia, a bunch of farmers rearranged the stones in 1866. No mean feat, they are impressive stones. 📷 me 06/05/2025

The history of the part of the area I know well (Abbotsbury/Portesham) is that these were estates belonging to the Catholic Church that were given to cronies of Henry VIII. So the villages are part an parcel of the estate.

Greylag west over Bridging Camp this morning thurs.
2 Linnets there yesterday likely migrants given general winter absence here. Also the wintering Whimbrel still.
On Sunday green sandpiper at Portesham withy bed + groups of 5 & 3 stonechats on the downs there seemed like passage birds.
