"I can't help painting what's hidden behind things"
A lesser-known contribution to France's "poetic realism" movement, #PortofShadows (1938, Marcel Carné) is a sad and haunting masterpiece. The beautifully bleak world of Le Havre is unforgettable, as are the doomed characters within. I loved it.
