Titled 'Chambéry - La Dent du Nivolet (alt 1553 mètres)' Image shows the Nivolet Cross, which is just visible at the very top of the photo, standing on the precipice of the mountain, which rises behind an expanse of forest. In the foreground, grasslands slope steeply up towards the forest. This is a new series, one which I haven't seen in this collection until now - the reverse is also divided into Adresse and Correspondence, which the other postcards are not. This postcard was printed by Levy Fils et Cie, Paris, and is the first in the collection which was not produced in Chambéry itself.

The image shows a long straight street disappearing into the distance. The buildings on both sides of the road feature an impressive portico made up of arches and square columns, forming walkways in front of (probably) shops. There are a couple of horse-drawn wagons in the road, and several men are standing in the road, watching the photographer. To the right, a man is standing by what looks like a news vendor's booth.

A man and woman, both wearing aprons, stand in front of a shop in the bottom right corner. A covered passage (possibly), about two storeys up, links the buildings. The postcard is entitled '2. Chambéry - Rue basse du Chateau' and is another in Dardel's series of views of Chambéry.

Vintage postcard in an album. Untitled, and with no details of the producer. The image is of a beautiful St Bernard, sitting. There is what looks like part of a wooden wall or fence behind him, and he appears to be sitting beside his owner, who is standing with one hand on the back of the dog's head; the hem of a long coat (possibly) can just be made out on the left of the image. This is the first card in this curated collection which has no title. A magnificent Good Boi like this really doesn't need a title, in fairness. 12/10, no notes.

Vintage postcard in an album. Titled 'Aosta - arco d'Augusto'. Image shows a large stone arch built over a rough road. There are a few people walking near the arch, showing that it is a substantial structure, several storeys high. The pillar on the right side appears to be damaged - there is what looks like a large rectangular void at its base, like an open doorway which is about two storeys tall. Above it, the stone blocks are rough and look like they are carrying significant impact damage as those immediately above the void are misaligned and look as though they have been pushed backwards into the structure; they are bo longer aligned with the rest of that part of the façade. There are trees to the left of the arch and a building to its right. Through the arch itself, the street continues, with buildings and trees stretching away from the viewer into the distance. On the horizon, a hill rises, with a large, pale building with a turret on the peak. A beam or pole has been attached to the arch at the point where it begins to arc, and a large crucifix has been attached to this, so it is positioned centrally above anyone who passes under the arch. The arch has a pitched roof with two small pennant- type flags flying from the top. There is no discernable printer/trader information on this postcard and the back is blank except for guide lines for the address.

Image shows a small cluster of large utilitarian buildings with several storeys, nestled in the valley between three large moutain ranges which rise steeply away from the valley on all sides. In the foreground is a small lake, with a path around it, leading from the hospice buildings to a statue on a stone pillar in the bottom right hand corner of the shot, on the far side of the lake to the buildings. The statue is of St Bernard, and is a man in robes, carrying a bishop's mitre and holding a staff in his right hand. His left hand is outstretched in front of him. The landscape looks rocky and barren, with no sign of plant life - there are no trees or bushes, just rocks, impressive mountain peaks and the buildings. The postcard was made in Switzerland ('Fabrication Suisse') and was produced by Dép.-Nr. 17010m Edition Guggenheim &Cie., Zurich.

Image shows the interior of a tenth century church with decorated, vaulted ceiling, arched windows set high in the stone walls, and framed paintings which have been angled towards the floor so they are more easily viewed by the congregation. There are four rows of wooden pews to the right of the image, one visible on the left, on the other side of the aisle, and we are looking down the church away from the main altar. On the right, next to the four pews, there is an arched alcove with an ornate metal gate, through which we can see part of a stone memorial (possibly, might be a font). At the far end of the church are three ornate arched windows over an altar. The front of the card is annotated 'B.F., Paris "Lux"'. The reverse is annotated 'Imp. Catala Frères, Paris'.

Vintage postcard in an album. Titled 'Grand St Bernard, Versant Suisse'. Sadly, after the delights of the last two postcards, there are no puppies in this image. It shows a track leading away from the camera, on the edge of a steep, rocky slope. To the left and right, the mountain peaks rise sharply, littered with rocks and almost entirely devoid of any plant life. The track leads past a retaining wall, and is heading for a cluster of buildings which perch precariously between these two mountain peaks. This is the St Bernard Hospice. In the foreground, two women, both using walking sticks or canes, are pausing to look back at the camera, while a man on a bike is cycling towards them. He's looking down; the brim of his hat completely hides his face. Let's hope he was avoiding being photographed, rather than being inattentive! The postcard is produced by Dép.-Nr. 17010 u. Édition Guggenheim & Cie., Zürich.
