You can fairly argue the material weighting of current resistance and putting selves in harms way; activation and action at a critical moment

But if that’s not tied to any wider current of actual concrete understanding or powerholding by those that seek to redress these roots of fascism -

One of the reasons France can do this is that a powerholding politician can be sure of a fair trial if charged with crimes after leaving office. That may be no longer true in the US, and we are already seeing former political appointees being hounded through the courts for pure spite.
One benchmark of a democracy is whether it is willing to hold those who have served at the very highest levels to account.

Can you imagine the United States ever doing something like this?
