This feels like a PowerMasters Optimus.
I’m more bothered by all the even weirder weirdness they leave on the table by refusing to do justice to Powermasters or Pretenders or Action Masters or tons of other characters with weak name recognition but great gimmicks who deserve a fresh chance. I can’t wait to see the new Thunderwing.

Boats, fishes, crustaceans etc
Could do the usual vehicles Vs animals bit like BW2 or RID01
A hybrid of Minicons and Powermasters where the smaller guys form a crucial part of the alt mode and are necessary for transformation, kinda like Armada Cyclonus

I loved the G1 Powermasters. Getaway and Joyride are beautiful in their simplicity, with Slapdash (by contrast) having a wonderfully interesting and unique transformation.

Even with something like powermasters/godmasters, the ability to go back to robot mode being locked behind access to the cooperating party is interesting. The name of the game becomes “you need Me to be allowed to be a person again.”

As my favorite G1 gimmick is Powermasters (2nd is pretenders, specifically vehicle) i was very excited for Joyride. He's neat, and mostly good considering the retool factor. I think the powermaster isn't done justice though.

Interestingly, the "Powermasters" (one word) sub line of the Transformers came out in 1988. "Power Master" (two words) is used by Lionel as the name of a model train control unit, but I wonder if there was a closed door trademark claim.

The red eyes ones are part of a program shared by Clampdown & the EDC with human pilots. Unlike the previous Autorooper types, which were made from corrupted bio-organics. This is a more traditional binary bonding, like Powermasters, but more of a body-immersion process. (Think Newtype Gundams.) /6
