like, the thing about the entire region is that the all of the elites were entangled in the same way as preroman Italy, so you very frequently had factions in various settlements which were "Incan" by political orientation before the Incans showed up. it got much uglier late.

The town where I live, Coleford in Gloucestershire, is built on cinders, iron waste, and many nearby sites offer reminders of the iron, ochre and steel industries which happened from preRoman to 80 years ago... So every walk for this PhD researcher is like a field study trip #photography #heritage

Oooo, can you get @gregjenner.bsky.social to stand in the hypocausts

although I must admit a special You're Dead to Me Roman vs. PreRoman Society with you / Curator Rob & @durotrigesdig.bsky.social would be amazing

Not as funny though as Greg in the hypocaust

Preroman italy seems like they was having fun before Romulus showed up.
⚜️ An etruscan amphora that is pretty wild. It dates to the 6th century BC . It is now on display with other repatriated art in the Aula Ottagona, a part of the Baths of Diocletian now used as an exhibition space for the National Roman Museum in Roma 🇮🇹
