#PrintNightmare
During a #redteam at @modzero.bsky.social we discovered a limited but neat bypass for #printnightmare. I talked to @itm4n about it and he had an indepth look. Read about it here:

Another Hypetweet FAIL

#CUPS vuln isnt exactly nothing. It's an rce vuln and is now exploitable. however it isnt #Printnightmare.

Im firmly of the opinion that one should either fully disclose or coordinate disclosure of vulnerabilities.

I hate and do not use printers at work. So much so, that I never bothered to look at any printer security settings in our environment since I started 12mo ago. I now find that no-one even did basic printnightmare remediations... there are at least 8 print servers for 3000 clients 😠

I updated the diagram representing the different Point and Print configurations and their exploitation on my blog.

Hopefully, this should provide a better understanding of the whole "PrintNightmare" situation to both defenders and red teamers. 🤞

An hour after MS-ISAC sends notification of how Duo was used in conjunction with PrintNightmare to gain network access, Duo sends a notification detailing which policies to review.

Not bad Duo!

Erf. It was just an SSH connection after getting the password. I ended up diving into a rabbit hole, trying to use PrintNightmare after failing to exploit EternalBlue.

got the NTHASH and decrypt it.
After some unsuccessful attempts, i found an vuln which seems work against the box : printnightmare (CVE-2021-1675). However after following the exploitation process, i encountered an ERROR_VIRUS_INFECTED message. So, for the first time, i'll try to obfuscate a dll

PrintNightmare Unplugged: Exploiting Windows Print Spooler for Domain Dominance + Video
Introduction: In the cat-and-mouse game of enterprise security, legacy services often become the Achilles' heel of modern infrastructure. The Windows Print Spooler service, a staple of network printing since the 1990s, has recently been exposed as a vector for complete domain compromise. Attackers are weaponizing the `PrintNightmare` vulnerability (CVE-2021-1675 and CVE-2021-34527) to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges, moving laterally through networks with terrifying efficiency.

Critical RCE Flaw in Windows Print Spooler (CVE-2024-12345) – Full Mitigation and Detection Guide + Video
Introduction: A newly disclosed critical vulnerability in the Windows Print Spooler service (CVE-2024-12345) allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges on affected systems. This flaw, similar to previous PrintNightmare variants, impacts all supported versions of Windows and is being actively exploited in the wild. Understanding how to detect vulnerable configurations, apply temporary mitigations, and ultimately patch the vulnerability is essential for security teams to prevent domain compromise and data breaches.

Update your Window machines to patch the PrintNightmare vulnerability. I found on a few machines I had to run the 06-2021 update first, restart, and then the 07-2021 KB5004945 update would show in Settings -> Windows Update.
