I think the first VHS I bought on my own (not a gift or a blank with random stuff I was given) was the CPM release of Bubblegum Crisis vol 1.

First dvd was Bandai's Escaflowne vol 4 because they stopped carrying the VHS releases (I had 1-3 in that format)

Rewatching Bubblegum Crisis again since I was a kid. This 1987 OVA literally rocks as a sci-fi remake of Streets of Fire (1984) where killer androids are called “Boomers.”

A true to modern life premise: Men suck. “Boomers” and cops make everything worse.
