#Pristionchus

This week I attended the 5th #Pristionchus meeting and had a wonderful time. It’s so intellectually stimulating to see so many new questions and new tools being developed in these nematodes. As someone who is new to nematodes, it’s great to be part of this community!😊

Thank you to the organizers!!!

Conserved and diverged patterns of senescence in Pristionchus nematodes
Healthspan, the period of life where organisms are without frailty and/or disease, is a major focus of biogerontological research. To understand late-life decline and increased mortality risk, short-l...

New preprint: we explore the role of mechanosensation in Pristionchus pacificus, focusing on the gene mec-2. Interesting hints about how sensory pathways contribute to behaviour in this nematode.

The IL2 neurons are my new favourite neurons in Pristionchus. In our new paper, lead by @marianneroca.bsky.social, we show which sensory modalities are crucial for a predating worm, which all are sensed in the IL2’s. And the IL2’s are sensitive to octopamine, promoting aggression in these worms 🧠🪱🔬🧪

In our study we compared the predatory nematode Pristionchus pacificus to its close relative Caenorhabditis elegans. While C. elegans feeds on microbes, P. pacificus can actively hunt and kill other worms!
