need to make it clear that i had no bans on my posting history but several embarrassing posts that deserved probation which quickly changed my behavior. this site needs probies
every site needs a version of somethingawful's "we can just ban you" policy to use against bad actors who make a game of ruining the site while making sure to always stay 1% shy of violating the rules as-written

Probies, make sure you talk to your supervisor so you know if they are making a case to retain you. If they are, ask for a copy of the justification. This is important. While probies can be fired without appeal rights, it must be for cause.

FEMA HQ is actively trying to convince the WH / DOGE that we should be exempt from the probationary RIF due to the "public safety" and "national security" provisions.
That's why other agencies have already fired probies and FEMA has not.
If we are not found to be exempt, RIFs will go into effect.

Additionally, many WFOs are severely understaffed.
Hiring new mets helps in the long run, but is a big investment up front.
By terminating probies, understaffed offices lose what potential relief they had after depleting what little time and energy they had into training.
Definition of wasteful.

I've actually highlighted that exact point--regarding the extreme pressure this is going to put on those who remain, especially during extreme events, and it *will* lead to exhausted and overworked meteorologists, who are doing their very best, making mistakes in high-stakes circumstances.

Practically, the case has limited reach. Nothing prevents the agencies from going back and effectuating removals of probies so long as they follow the proper procedures. That said, it's important to hold the government accountable and ensure that it follows the proper procedures. 18/18

Sure, she can fire them. However, we saw how that turned out for probies being fired for doing their jobs well. They’re being sent back to work. Granted, they’ll probably get RIF’d, but that’s better than being illegally fired. People need to rise up. Congress isn’t, so it’s in the courts and us.
