In Javik's case, you could argue that British or American would have been appropriate, because the big twist introduced by FROM ASHES (his DLC) is that the "core" Protheans (his people) were cruel arrogant imperialists who lost because their focus on assimilation destroyed knowledge they needed

The protheans ARE the Collectors
Mass Effect had some amazing musical cues. I appreciate that the main "theme" is Vigil; a haunting and melancholic theme of a dying virtual intelligence fulfilling its only and final duty in informing Shepard of the reapers and the fate of the Protheans.
A moment of tranquillity with one of my favourite title screens of any game. 💜

From his appearance, he's clearly a relative of the guys identified as Protheans in ME2, and one thing you can ask him is "why don't you look anything like the statues from ME1". It turns out that those guys are actually the inusannon, who were to the Protheans what the Protheans were to us

Over the course of MASS EFFECT, two additional things become clear:
1) the Protheans are not *the* precursor civilisation; they're just the most recent galactic hegemons before us
2) the Protheans figured out how to make Mass Relays, but most of the ones that exist were created by the Reapers

Bioware did the same fakeout precursor civilization in Mass Effect with the Protheans/Reapers and it worked well, because the Protheans were still their own thing, and not just essentially a front for the Reapers like Tevinter is with the Evanuris.
