He deliberately chose "proton laser therapy" as the example too because it sounds sufficiently sci-fi to make low-info people assume it's "medically unnecessary"

Australians can’t get best practice care for brain tumours. It’s been around for 30y, but proton therapy is not available in Australia.

The Vic govt abandoned plans for proton therapy at Peter Mac - the SA govt has failed to finish a facility.

The federal govt must step in.

My husband was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in 2016. We were terrified. We are also luckily living in the NY- NJ area. Medical excellence resides here. My husband was treated with proton therapy & hormones. I’m happy to report he is alive, cancer free, working &doing great.

Doh, I missed the “for a kid with seizures”. Proton therapy is cancer treatment. I am now not sure of the imagined treatment being referred to here based on the seizures bit.

Disclaimer I am not a doctor. Not sure how proton therapy is relevant to seizure unless it’s a brain tumor.

I mean, it’s not like a parent is coming up with ‘proton laser therapy’ on their own as a thing to demand. The kid’s doctor presumably recommended the treatment, that’s how this works.

Why do I get the impression that people aren't feeling that sorry about what's happened to this UHC CEO? This may be part of the reason: www.cancerhealth.com/article/judg...

The justice recused himself from the case, saying the insurer’s denial of coverage of proton beam therapy was “immoral and barbaric.”

Not surprising. Proton beam radiation therapy is routinely denied by private ins as experimental/investigational (bc it’s more expensive), despite its development in 1988 and coverage by Medicare & Medicaid. And while UHC has fought its coverage, a UHC affiliate pledged $15m to build a PBRT clinic!

People clearly did not get the point here: proton laser therapy is not a treatment for seizures. It is a treatment for cancer.

Someone has to tell people that no, you don't get infinity dollars for quack treatments.

I'm so worried my insurance is going to deny the proton therapy or that it'll be more than a few days a week. It's such a far driiiive.
