If I was part of a protoplanet that was catastrophically destroyed in the early solar system, I'd be angrite too.

16 Psyche, an asteroid valued at $10,000 quadrillion for its rich metallic composition, is believed to be the exposed core of an ancient protoplanet. Conveniently positioned near the route to a future Mars colony, it could become a game-changing resource for space exploration and industry.

New protoplanet(s?) alert! I'm happy to share this LBTI image of WISPIT 2 from our team's paper led by Laird Close. Planet b was discovered at Hα with MagAO-X following the SPHERE disk discovery (R. van Capelleveen +), and CC1 might be a candidate 2nd (enshrouded?) protoplanet #exoplanets ☄️🔭🧪

Vesta is still full of surprises
It’s not really an asteroid, nor maybe really a protoplanet.

It's been exciting to live through the transition between a time when planets around other stars were the subject of science fiction to a day when hundreds have been detected and almost 100 directly imaged. Check out this cool story about a recent discovery 🧪

Check out our new paper on the first system where we can measure the C/O ratio in both a protoplanet and its disk!
I am excited to share my third paper of this year, and my first exoplanet paper with @thejason.wang, accepted to ApJL. We detected CO and water in the atmosphere of PDS 70 b, a protoplanet around its natal disk using Keck/KPIC. PDS 70 b shows a stellar-like C/O ratio (!). arxiv.org/abs/2411.15117

Starts With A Bang #128 – Planet formation and proto-protoplanets

You've heard of planets, exoplanets, and protoplanets.

Now, for the first time, we've discovered something more primitive than any of them: a proto-protoplanet.

Here's what it means.

Alongside other results, these characteristics indicate that the parent body was a protoplanet about 1800 kilometers in diameter.

The green inclusions are olivine crystals, which are magnesium-rich.
